Mold and Water Damage

Mold damage is a huge problem in the United States each year.  In more humid climates it can be a very serious problem, and one that definitely requires your attention as a homeowner.  It is imperative to make sure that you do not have trapped moisture or building problems within your structure.  Each year there are many homes and buildings that require a great deal of cost to make repairs, or even sometimes have to be demolished.

Mold damageMany cases of mold damage have led to extraordinary lawsuits.  This is sometimes the result of a home builder taking shortcuts during the construction process.  When the shortcuts for taken many times it results in defective and shoddy workmanship, and thus resulting in problems down the road.  It is so important to make sure that you check the history and building record of the company that you choose to build your home.

You only get one chance to do this research, so it must be done thoroughly each and every time.  There have been patterns of the same builders making the same mistakes during home construction over the years, which have led to mold damage, water damage, in general home deficiencies.  We had significant water damage in our home two years ago, and had to hire to repair and replace the damage caused by this moisture.  And if you have water damage on your foundation or your concrete floors, there is no amount of carpet cleaning in Daytona Beach that is going to correct that problem.

The most susceptible areas in your home to water damage and mold damage are your carpets and your flooring, as well as your attic.  These are the areas that oftentimes trapped moisture and become a haven for water damage, mold, and other problems.  It is so important to make sure that a carpet cleaner inspects your carpets to make sure that they are free from damage and water problems.  This can sometimes happen if your foundation has leaks or was built improperly.

So keep in mind, the areas most susceptible in your home are:

  • Attics
  • Crawl Spaces
  • Carpets
  • Rugs
  • Exterior Walls

It is also a great idea to hire a home inspector to make sure that the home you are building, or the home that you are buying, was built correctly and meets all building code for your particular state or city.  If you do this you will almost always protect yourself and protect your family from heartache in the future.  You can also avoided costly and lengthy lawsuits that inevitably result from the situations.

Water DamageAlthough home inspectors cannot catch every problem associated with carpet problems, water damage, and molds problems, they’re still the best resource for preventative maintenance.  In general if you are vigilant and watchful to make sure that you are protecting your home, and that the contractor working on your home is fully licensed and fully insured, and you should be completely fine and have nothing to worry about.  The lawsuits that you hear about related to home construction, mold damage, water damage, and other problems are generally the result of homeowners not hiring an experienced contractor.

If you look of the history of class action lawsuits related to home construction defects, it is more than not the same builders making the same mistakes year after year.  This is why so many of them get tangled up in these damaging and punishing lawsuits that bring everybody down.  Just do your research and take the time to understand who you are hiring and you will likely never have to worry about these type of lawsuits.  And that will be a very good thing for you and your family!
